Star Wars Blasters: Does the different color lasers have different effects?
With lightsabers the color crystal you use have a different effect on the saber’s power. Well, at least in a lot of the games. Since blasters also use crystals does that mean that the red and green and blue colors they fire have slightly different effects?
First of all, the things you can do in the games have nothing to do with the story of Star Wars official canon … absolutely nothing.
In the “canon” story the type of crystal used has no effect at all on the “power” of a lightsabre blade … none. The only thing the crystal does is determine the color of the blade, nothing else. Sith lightsabres are a little different. True Sith Lords use a synthetic crystal. The synthetic crystal is unstable and requires the user to always split a small amount of his concentration to keep the crystal stable. The blade of a true Sith Master is slightly more “powerful” than a Jedi blade but only to the degree that it will take longer for it to short out while cutting Cortosis Ore … matched against a Jedi blade it gives little or no advantage to the Sith.
Blaster do NOT use crystals … they use tibanna gas to power the laser bolts that they emit. Blue colored beams and/or circle beams are a “stun setting” on the blaster. I’ve never been able to find out why the colors of the blasts are different. One theory, which is more than likely wrong beyond belief is that the blasts of Imperial weapons shot green while the Rebels are red … the exact opposite of Luke and Vaders light sabre.
